Tannen Maury has been a photojournalist for 40+ years. He has worked as a photographer for the Associated Press and European Pressphoto Agency; and as contact photographer for Bloomberg, Reuters and Agence France-Presse.

Born and raised in Memphis, Tennessee, Tannen graduated from the University of Mississippi. After graduating, he returned to Memphis to work in his family hardwood-flooring business. Realising life behind a desk was not for him, he landed his first job as weekend photographer for the Memphis Press Scimitar newspaper. Following a stint at the Sarasota Herald Tribune in Florida, Tannen took up a post as AP staff photographer in Jackson, Mississippi.

Tannen’s extensive assignments have included the first Gulf War as an embedded photographer with the 82nd Airborne; famine in Somalia; revolution in El Salvador; the aftermath of the Rwandan genocide; Super Bowls; World Series; NBA Finals; Masters Golf; hurricanes; tornadoes and more. He is also a drone pilot who most recently provided coverage of the 2023 Ohio chemical train disaster.

Tannen is based in Chicago, USA.
